華惠執導的《椰林空位》是本屆山海計劃獨一赴海內拍攝的作品。影片聚焦柬埔寨新娘索娜在廣州產子后因家庭變故欲返鄉的心路歷程，通過一封欲留給孩子的告別信和夢境中的椰林，探討當代女性的鄉水箱水愁與結構性窘境。
此外，廣州和金邊的文明比較也為作品帶來了表達空間，華惠說：“廣州有珠江Benz零件、創新的歷史建筑、用以城市觀賞的椰子樹；金邊有湄公河、創新的歷史建筑、用以維持國民生計的椰子樹……這種對比將呈現跨國婚姻中的成分碰撞。”
